| From this view, a couple of important aspects of a classic swing can be seen. The right shoulder is noticeably lower than the left shoulder and the hands are mid body with the club pointing at the belt buckle. The knees are flexed and pointing out in the direction of the feet. This creates an athletic platform that promotes a free turn during the backswing and the downswing. |
The classic swing begins with a fundamentally sound set-up. In most players of normal build a slight rounding of the back is typical and acceptable. The shaft runs up the Plane Line (an extension of it would pass thru the navel). While this is advantageous, the shaft line and Plane Line are not always the same. The arms are hanging slightly out and away from the shoulders and the lower legs (from the knees to the feet) are angled away from the ball. This puts the weight on the balls of the feet allowing the maximum freedom of movement. |
